The Shiva vase is both a sculpture and a vase: a symbol of Ettore Sottsass's creative universe and a true design icon. Designed in 1971 during a trip to Barcelona born out of love, it was born from a fusion of cultures, religious symbolism, and inspirations gathered by the designer during his travels.
The soft, sinuous shape recalls the Hindu god Shiva, often represented through the "Lingam," a devotional sculpture with strong symbolic value. The clean, perfectly symmetrical lines combine with intense colors and a brilliant enamel finish that enhances every detail of the shape.
Shiva vases have been defined as “small architectures… like small monuments”, objects capable of creating presence and energy in any environment.
